Sue, Im on the same point of the curve and really understand the frustration. I just put an over-ride clutch on my 8N and Don is right, dont leave home without it. I may add chains to keep the mower up but for now the Position Control seems to be good enough. In my shop manual it says that the lever is vertical for position control and it seems to work for me.
