What you need to do is establish a "public" email address on one of the free sites like yahoo or hotmail. Then change your other email address, giving it out only to close friends. Request they not forward messages from you unless they remove the headers. Also request they NOT send you any online greeting cards, as those sites are merely email address gathering operations. For any public dealings, use your public (aka throwaway) account. If (when) the spam kicks up again, throw it away and get a new one. If you do it this way, your private account will be spam-free for quite some time, and throwing away your public address will become routine.
