More likely as not it was stolen. Then the theives got cold feet and decided to "lose" it rather then get caught trying to sell it. Local guy had a horse stolen a few years ago and the theives found out it wasn't so easy to sell with several sale barns on the lookout for it. The idiots shot the animal and left him lay. They forgot that meat STINKS when in spoils, a neighbor of the theif found the body a week later.
