A friend of mine had the same problem with the same engine in a brand new truck. Described the same symptoms as you are describing, his had even less miles when the noise appeared, took it back to the dealer, the noise was diagnosed as piston slap. (piston slap in a new engine?) My friend was not too happy, dealer was going to repair engine, friend said no, I bought a new truck, I want a new engine. Dealer reluctantly installed a new engine.
