Well, I got the ignition problems solved on Saturday-(Before I began working on that I put 2 oz. of MMO in each cylinder, at 2pm, as suggested). The ignition switch bad, replaced, now I have 6.2 volts to coil (but is this to much or fine?) Battery was 6.5 volts.New batt.

Then no spark at coil??!!- took time to check for bad ground at distribtor- terminal ground good- continuity to engine and to points on condensor side. But no continuity from breaker arm to point- so that means when points are closed, there is no current flow- I surmised. Plate that stuff mounted on all rusty- took point and condensor, off, took plate off; wire wheeled rust off and cleaned body of dist. Then put new point assembly in and gapped. Wow! spark at coil and plug wires - spark white to blue colored. (First time I have replaced dist. parts! I'm used to electronic auto stuff) I was excited, was now 6pm (MMO soaked 4 hours) and wanted to try starting her. I put a little gas in each cylinder, plugs in, cranked, just a pop or two, then ran out of time. Rigged a one gallong mower gas tank up to feed the carb. Had to go home. I think there is alot of crap in the engine as I pulled one plug (all 4 new) before leaving and it had black , oily stuff on it.
What should I try to do to start this low compression beast? Pull start it without gas on, but spark on to clean out engine (oils/carbon.)?? The old plugs that were in it, appeared more carboned, than oil burned, they were black and sooty. What do you guys think I should do to try and start it. Has good starter and battery to spin her over. Also , I should maybe check timing, to make sure ignition perfect ( never done this on 8n so back to the manual).
