Or it could be that your valves have eroded a bit and now your valve clearance is too tight, effectively leaving a valve open all the time. If your clearance is too tight, adjust it as recommended in the manual for your engine. On some engines, this means grinding a little off the retainer end of the valve stem. Be careful--if you shorten it too much, you buy a new valve and start the clearancing process over. Good luck.
