Hi glen, Propane works as it's heavier than air so it stays in the holes longer and won't contaminate the soil or water but is a safety hazard from the explosive point. Takes the oxygen away from the ants. No matter what you use, a mound that size will have to be treated serval times to solve the problem. Me I would use the LP for a week straight with a pipe shoved down the holes in a few places to deliver the LP deep into the holes. Maybe use a water pipe to dig holes down deep then use LP with a sting of Black powder. Stand way back, 100ft or so, and touch it off making a serious crater then use a weed burner on the ground surface right after. I had a black ant mound in the vege garden. Used water to flood the mound every day for a week. They kept moving there hole and out of the garden area in about a week. Finally they moved somewhere else and I couldn't find them again. T_Bone
