Also recommend the diazinon if you can get it. I have some Ortho wasp and hornet killer that can be used on anthills, just soak the anthill with it and supposedly it will kill the nest. My results with it have been mixed.

I know a guy who has destroyed wasp and hornet nests built in holes in his field by taking a rag, tying it to a stick, soaking it in kerosene, setting it on fire, and sticking it in the nest. He did it at midnight, when the bugs were at rest. It always worked for him. Dunno if it will work on ants.
