Bolens G272 Diesel

I need help on the PTO for a Bolens G272 tractor. The 540 speed side of the pto is out. I think its a broken gear. Has any of you ever worked on one of these? I need to know where to start. Do i need to seperate the tractor? Do I need to pull the lift top? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.Thanks.
