Battery problems

I have a small lawn tractor with a Briggs & Stratton twin cylinder engine. I purchased the tractor at Sam's.

I recently purchased a battery for it after the original one died. The new one wouldn't hold a charge.

I returned it and they replaced it. The same thing happens with the replacement.

If it's grounded, how do I trouble shoot this problem?

If it's not grounded, any suggestions to my problem?

I sure would appreciate some help on this problem.
The nearest small engine place is 40 miles with 2 to 3 weeks turn around. I need it bad now.
