Hi Dave, You have a two-way hydraulic cylinder. On the end of the ram/rod is a cylinder piston/spool inside the bore that has seals on both sides of the spool. One or both sides of the seals are bad thus leaking past each other and not holding the load. Another words it's leaking internally. Easy to replace but messy. You replace all seals while torn down. Get a service manual and do some reading before tearing apart. T_Bone
