Hi Tom, I have to agree with the others with first choice but maybe another idea. If the battery was too small for the application it would draw too many amps to fast thus warping the plates causig a dead short? I have no idea what type of charging system that has and being that new of a tractor, maybe the voltage regulator is hanging open running maximum alternator amps to the battery to fast thus causing the above? Just throwing wood on the fire :) T_Bone
