Hey Tom,
As the other posts already have said, and you probably knew anyway, Oxygen and Hydrogen are normal byproducts of charging a lead acid battery. More is produced when overcharged, but normal charging produces it too. What you may look for is a loose connection on a battery post, or other nearby connection that could spark when you are cranking the engine.

Normally when a tractor is running the fan blast will keep the area well aired out..
