My neighbor has a Jack Russell "Terror" who used to get in my garage and tear up my hoses and just about everything he could get his paws or teeth on. Not the poor dog's fault, but I would sure like to get my hands on the owner's throat. Unknowingly, I solved my rodentia and canine problem last fall when I rescued and semi-socialized a creature known only as "Big Tom", an 18# spotted hard feral junkyard tomcat that I highly respect and give plenty of room. After a routine "raid" in which the dog accidently encountered and not-so-intelligently challenged Big Tom in the garage (one could hear the yapping, then the screeching and squawling for miles) and lived through it, the poor pooch has not returned to my place. "Big Tom" was unscathed, with hardly a hair out of place. Now, if the dog goes up the street he goes to the other side of the road and watches my garage like a hawk as he passes. Needless to say, rodents are not a problem either unless I get one on the order of the ancient Sylvester cartoon in which what he thought was a giant mouse turned out to be a boxing kangaroo! P.S.: After a trip to the vet for some much needed "fixes" and many stitches, the dog's owner has bragged about the 'hood about his scarred-up and tattered JRT winning a fight to the death with a bobcat! No comments from me! Good luck! MAC

He wanted to get the rest of his corn in by the next day (Christmas Eve). We had about an inch of new snow on the ground and single digit temperatures. So in the bac
