The Ford pickup diesels have lots of problems with their automatic transmissions if run under heavy load at less than 2000 RPM for extended periods. Problem is that the engine will pull the load at less RPM, and novice drivers think they are doing the outfit a favor by "loafing" the engine. But lower RPM means less cooling for the transmission, and overheating and frying of the tranny can result.
