Does the crank turn almost a full revolution before it stops. Can you then turn it almost a full revolution backwards before it stops? This is usually an interference between the top of the piston and the head. It could be something as simple as a piston unit turned 180 degrees. If it turns more than one turn, but less than two, it is usually an interference with the valve train. It could be something on the cam gear (The cam rotates at half crank speed) It may be the cam is out of time with the crank. A quick check on this is to pull the valve cover, @ 1 and 4 piston come to the top at the same time. Same for 2 and 3. One piston will be coming up on compression, the other will be coming up on exhaust. At exactly the top, the piston coming up on exhaust will have the exhaust closing and the intake openning. We call this being "on the rock". You can rock the crank back and forth and the valves will begin their movement. Let us know what you find, We all learn something new every day.
