It seems to me that the thing you need to determine is whether it is an electrical problem or a fuel problem. When it won't start, have someone press the starter button and you pull a plug wire or the wire from the coil into the magneto/distributor to see if you have a spark, If you don't buy yourself a new coil and I think that your problem will be solved. A broken wire inside the coil will act just the way you have described.
