Front steel wheels - Line them with tow strap strips?

I have a McCormick Deering 10-20 with steel wheels up front & would like to line them as so they are not so noisy on the street. I know truck tire tread might work, but I have some 4 inch wide flat style tow strap and was curious if something like this might hold up to line the wheels with, or will it start fraying in no time from the weight of the tractor? I'm thinking it might not hold up very long but not sure. Anybody tried it? Thanks for your input.
