Power washing can make a cleanup job go much faster. I like to spray the grease down with diesel a few times and a couple of days before I use a power washer. The diesel softens the grease somewhat. I try not to hit seals and other openings with the power washer stream if I can help it. Breathers and sensitive spots should be covered. You might get some water inside your engine and other oil sumps. It might be a good time to change the various fluids after using a power washer, or at least checking them. One of my buddies has an actual kerosene fired steam cleaner, which works much better than a cold water power washer. If your machine is really caked on, you might want to consider renting a steam cleaner. It sure is easier to work on a clean machine than one that you have to dig to find bolt heads and always get filthy when you work on it.
