I don't know for sure about the 1990 year but some of the older G.M. products used a fusible link to supply current to the compressor. Check the wire that brings current to the compressor on yours, if it has a bulge or round disc, might be rectangular shaped, this is the fusible link. This might be where your problem is. You will need to replace the whole wire, or bypass it to see if that is the culprit.
