Everything that BigDog said, including making sure you are NOT trying to lift more weight than the 3 pt linkage and the tractor were designed to handle.

Another way of adding weight to the front is 3/4 fill your front tyres with water and them add air to the pressure you need. Some people use calcium chloride for this but I don't like it because it is rather corrosive.
