Low Injection control Pressure can cause this. If it does it when it is hot or cold! If the engine has a Blown oring on a injector causing injection control pressure to drop below about 350 psi it will stall. Powerstrokes need about 800 psi to Start and Idle between about 400 to 550 psi injection control pressure. I would unplug the injection control pressure sensor and the IPR pressurereg Valve will go to a default 550 or so Idle pressure. This would indicate a possible bad IPR Valve. Could be a Cam Sensor but does not sound like it. That Engine in a Navistar Truck will Idle with the THrottle position sensor unplugged... I had Seen bulletins of Tourque converters (Allison) Causing this in rare cases. Not sure about Ford Trannys. You Can get real lost in the pocketbook Replacing parts to find the problem. Need to get codes and have system checked. The Orings on the Injectors were only part of the list of parts superceded 6 or 7 times till they got them right.
