if you have the storage to keep it I would do that. Kids grow up, free time changes. you can always part it out at a later date the prices for parts are only going to go up. You could end up kicking yourself for selling it five or ten years from now. If you plug away at it even though it may take years to finish it would be worth it. There are lots of people here that take forever to finish their projects. I have an I-4 that sounds worse than your F20n and it is also my first restore. The I-4 would be a parts tractor to most but I will try. Finish or not it's been fun and educational. I have a N gauge train set that I was given the fellow who started it sunk $700 into it before he quit but he did not regret having started it.
