Yes, it's true. I just heard about your post & thought I'd respond. Such a guy contacted me last week & then again yesterday. As soon as I answer you, I'm going to the MM site I use most & post a notice there. This guy told me he was from Holland. Asked all the right questions. Then he gets to the part where he says he'll send more than the amount of our sale price to cover the cost of shipping it, which his US broker will send to us by Monday with all the instructions. And he wants me to wire the excess money thru Western Union to the shipper. I was busy with my bookkeeping & didn't give much thought to the whole thing; just took notes to tell my husband later in the day. Mid-afternoon I got a call from this guy & he gave me all these specific details of dates & places making it sound pretty legitimate. I told him that from what I knew it would cost about $200 to wire money to Holland and if we followed through on this, that would come out of his end. He said "Since when does it cost $200 to wire money to Africa?" I'm thinking AFRICA? Who said anything about Africa? Then I started thinking of all those junk e-mails that talk about US brokers & wanting people to help get funds out of the country or whatever.....same kind of scam. Then he hits me with "Can you go ahead & send the excess money today even though you won't get the cashier's check until Monday?" I knew instantly it was a scam & told him so & told him the conversation was over. He called our home AGAIN at 2:30 a.m. this morning. I hung up. Called again twice this morning & I knew the 800 number that Caller ID was displaying so I didn't answer. Called again just a bit ago to tell me that he'd talked to his agent & the check won't make it by Monday (like I thought it WOULD!) He asked AGAIN if I could send the shipping money anyway. I told him again that I knew he was a fraud & that I was putting the word out on all the tractor sites I know. I went into detail on this in hopes that nobody else will consider any foreigner who calls or writes & wants to buy your tractor as a legitimate buyer unless it's someone you know. Hope nobody follows through to far with this guy.
