ford 4500 fuel pump

has anyone had a problem with a fuel pump on a 3cly i bought a basket case redid the motor and installed a new fuel pump and i get a real little stream out of it the tractor runs maybe 30 seconds and stops i hooked up a eletric fuel pump on it and it runs good has anybody had trouble with this before could it be the rod that runs the pump off the lob any info would be greatly apperciated thanks bob
