I beg to differ that bad wires will cause a complete misfire. I recently replace wires on my truck because it was not accelerating like I thougt it used to. It was not missing or idiling rough. The wire replacement did help tremendously. A wire can lose only a portion of its conductivity and not all. It is very likley that a bad wire causes your problem. An easy check would be to switch with another cylinder. It could be that the peg on the dist. cap is not making good contact with the rotary button. I would check compression before I went much farther. It is possible to run a hot plug in only one cylinder.
