The narrow front has the pivot point on the front at the bottom of the tires, which is ground level. The wide front has the front pivot point where it mounts to the tractor, which is probably in the neighborhood of about 1 1/2' to 2' above ground level. That higher pivot point means the center of gravity is not as much to one side when on a slope, and it also has less leverage to try to pick up one side of the back. Also, if a rear tire does come up enough to try to flip the tractor, the front cannot pivot too terribly far before it hits the stops and has to lift the front tire as well to allow the rollover.
