A box blade is more useful for moving dirt from one place to another. It is also more useful for leveling really uneven places as you can lower the rippers to dig in and cut down the high places. But it can be difficult learning to use it for extensive leveling. A straight blade is better for simply leveling out and/or maintaining something like a drive way or moving snow. It is made to level and smooth loose soil or gravel just like a road grader, but not really made for moving it very far. And unless it is really heavy, it will not cut into hard ground if you need to do extensive leveling. Just buy one of each. ;-)
