While I don't recall all of the details of the accident investigation, I do remember that the crown plate was dangerously thin and not all of the rivets were up to par. I'm not sure that the engine was truly restored.

Unfortunatly, it was a tragic occurance that might have been prevented by trailering the steamer to the fairgrounds. The operator had all of the proper equipment to do so. On the other hand, it sounds like this engine was going to fail sooner or later. 5 were killed and dozens injured. Had the engine blown during the fair, and not during set up, those numbers would have been much higher.
