I use a Ford 850 with a baler and it does fine. However, an 871 will have the Select-O-Speed transmission which does not have a good reputation. I've never owned an SOS tractor, but the word I hear is you'd better be able and willing to do the necessary maintenance and adjustments on a regular basis if you want it to be dependable. Personally, I'd look for an 860 or 861 with live pto. That's the only regret I have about baling with my 850 (non live pto).
