Been doing it for years. I lay all the bottles from an oil change on thier side for a day or so to let all the oil collect on what will be a verticle surface when I stand the bottle up to drain. Then I change a bottle every day that I go into the shop or if I am working there for the day I switch them a few times that day. I have kept my lawn mover in oil including changes and my oil cups full for oiling my lathes and milling machine. Like others have said, it is surprizing how much oil you do collect. And if it is cold out I don't feel so guilty about not letting the oil bottles drain for a long time into the engine before going on to the next quart.
