I don't believe there's a great scarcity of such things but they would be uncommon enough to fetch that price. I have a piece of a broken one like you describe. If I was a clever feller like F14, I'd use it to make a sign or some other kind of "yard art".
Speaking of F14, you might want to ask your question of him. He uses stuff like that.
