several yrs ago when the cummins was a 3 or 4 thsd $ option I figured the difference in milage would take 150 thous miles to break even on the more expensive deisel just in fuel cost, found one used, the dealer depreciated a deisel with 7000 mls like a gas rig, we snapped it up. since then maint costs are about the same. a gas rig would prob have needed a rebuild but the deisel doesn't and it has 185000mls, BUT it ate a fuel pump and scattered shrapnel into the injectors, top end overhaul was $2000, same as a rebuilt gas. Gotta admit I like the torque tho, good luck
