IF you're discing "sod", undisturbed soil with a grass cover, I think you would have better results using the 'draft' feature of your tractor's hydraulics. Simply pulling a disc across the ground usually doesn't *cut* it, so to speak, but it also depends on soil type. More important is the angle of the front and rear discs, open them up(move the center ends towards the middle) and it probably won't matter whether you 'draft' or 'drag'. On the other hand, if you're seeding, you don't need to get as deep, so only open the gangs up about half way. Your mileage may vary ;-)
