even-odd days and other programs to limit availability. I was a Texaco dealer in 1974. I could only get a percentage of my previous monthly sales from Texaco. No problem getting gas however. Had a private operator who would deliver
with an unmarked tanker after dark for cash. He got good deals from the refiner because the tanks were running over. Texaco wanted to maintain their reputation as a full service company so they insisted on 24 hour open time to do mechanical work and wash windshields even if I didn't have gas. I would have lost my franchise and perhaps my freedom if I had gotten caught.
