I have a Yamaha Kodiak 400, and a 600 Grizzly. The Kodiak is a 5 speed with hi-lo trans.. The Grizzly is automatic with hi-lo trans.. I wouldn't buy a "work" ATV without hi-lo!! The Yamaha auto's (belt tranny) "only" use the belt for shifting!! NOT for the clutch! They have a seperate clutch like the gear drive models for clutching. This is why Yamaha's can use engine back pressure while going down hills, (with out a spl. belt) and it's also why the belts "don't slip"!! Also i have NEVER had to replace the belt in my Grizzly! Last time i asked my dealer he had not had to replace even one belt on a Yamaha auto.. Other pluss', my Yamaha's will start in "any gear", i don't have to back to nutural unlike most others. Both of my 4 wheelers have been reliable and on the job when ever i need them!! The one to avoid, Polaris!! Reliablity problems!! Robert
