Deere serial numbers are not always that accurate. Not all of them start at 0 - some start at 1000 and so forth. Some serial numbers were scrapped by Deere, some tractors were returned to the factory and re-tagged and the list goes on. Some serial numbers lists use the model year to determine serial number range and some use serial number range to determine model year - there is a difference. My advice would be to post the model number and serial number in question on the JD board - one of the JD gurus there can likely help you out.
