All vegetable oils (all oils for that matter) can be refined into fuel oil. Soy is the most available but most difficult as it has a hydrocarbon chain of 14 or 16 carbons while petroleum diesel has a chain of 15 carbons. Lots of good blends out with vegetable oil B20 being 20% bio oil, 80% petrol; B2 is 2% vegie, and so on. Does great things on cutting sulfur content and adding lubricosity. Two main reasons not to just tank up on vegie oil (besides the hydrocarbon variance) is lack of fuel system additives and cost. Even at $1.79 petrol diesel is cheaper than using plant oils. Last #'s I say were pure soy runs about $2.50/gallon
