I have read that the piston crown in a propane engine runs cleaner without an insulating layer of carbon and hotter,so you can have a buildup of ash on the underside of the piston dome and on the top ring. There are many good detergent oils that have a low ash additive package. This is the same requirement for 2 cycle Detroit diesel engines to prevent fire ring sticking. Case IH sells a specific low ash oil for propane and natural gas engines. Is in a gold can and marked low ash.
