The usual problem I have seen with them was reving the engine wide open, then engaging the pto, causing a terrific amount of slipping and shock to the parts before the piece of equipment gets moving at the pto rate. The proper way is tpo run the engine at as near idle,as possible, engage the pto, then, increase the rpm. The manual will show that these PTO unitd operster )fit) a number of different size tractors and the change is handled by adjusting the hydraulic pressure, accomplished by the control rod adjustment.
