Coyotes are only just getting here. A larger problem is pack dogs. You really don't want an encounter with Fido's owner. Either aim behind and see if they'll scoot, or plan to dig a hole. We live in the woods and don't take chances with groups of strange dogs. One neighbor has a pair that are accomplished killers. He knows not to let them roam anywhere near here. And we're still friends. That old Boy Scout motto still holds, "Be Prepared". Last problem critter I shot was a groundhog, under my Jeep. Very important to grab the right gun. Garden was fine after that.
