I would put it slighty foreward from center axle. I would definately not want one behind the axle. I like the welded channel iron myself rather than the plates. If welding be careful. You will want to unhook battery on vehicle and be careful with ground placement. Electrical systems can get screwy from welding. Also be very careful not to burn into fuel tank or fuel related items. Got to be real careful about fire when welding to vehicle.
