As the downturn of the farm economy headed east, in the early 80's, a Deere dealer auctioned the new Greens in Nov, 83. About twenty 4240's were sold at 22-24K each, more than pocket change. In the dog days of August, 1986, I attended a light crowd auction, spotting one of these 'left- over' 40 series tractors, SGB,Quad, 18.4x38 rears. The engine had been replaced by Deere under warranty, tires:80%. Opened at 10K,raised to 11K, auctioneer said: any advance? I paused...thinking 12 to buy? "SOLD 11 thousand".Fast close. Regret that 33 month old 110 HP steal.
