Stan, if you have an opportunity, look at the "touchdown zone" at a commercial airport or military base, the area on the runway surface where large aircraft usually touchdown on landing. You will see large deposits of rubber, which, at some point, must be scraped off the runway. Most runways will have these at both ends. They become potentially hazardous when the rubber buildups become slippery, especially when wet, and inhibit braking action.
