You're probably going to be paying for customs brokerage service anyway -- so let them do the work to a certain extent. One tip, though, is to get the exporter through a country of origin bureaucrat to certify the combine as a specific item under the harmonized tariff code system. In my experience a customs broker rents space in the same or an adjacent building to the customs office and sends his cute young thing employees over to get a rubber stamp from an overweight, balding Federal employee -- and that's what you're paying for.
