Since you say that this is your first tractor and I believe you said earlier that you are looking to put up some hay with this tractor, I thought I might point out the relative merits of "live" pto in your intended application. When baling hay without live pto, when you push in the clutch, the baler stops. If you have a large wad of hay that you need the baler to eat up, it is nice to be able to ease through it while keeping the baler working at full speed. Not possible without live pto. Now you can bale hay without live pto. I do it. I have an 850 Ford. It does take some forethought and some practice. I've gotten to where I can quickly take the tractor out of gear and let the clutch back out to let the baler catch up with a large load that it just swallowed and then I've gotten pretty good at pushing in the clutch and slipping the tractor back into gear before the baler coasts to a full stop without grinding gears too much. Still, live pto would be a lot nicer. Without live pto, the best favor you can do yourself is get good at making your windrows nice and uniform...not too skinny, not too fat.
