Part of the reason vehicles, especially cars, went to 12v was they could use smaller guage wiring,some are now even going to 120v, so 6v wire should work fine. Used a lot of 12v on 6v starters, no trouble, other than bendix. Always worried about flywheel though. Starter/gen. rebuilders can redo 6v to 12v and are good for advice. I start my 560 diesel on 24v.
