You will probably blow the voltage regulator.
Are battery terminals still there? They will be different sizes, hopefully! If not regulator connections will need checking out. If it has an ammeter, disconnect generator/regulator and see which way the ammeter moves for a discharge situation - if reads as charging, turn battery around.
If it has had an alternator generator fitted, it will probably be negative earth, but polarity should be shown on alternator output terminal
