Your 6 volt starter will do just fine on 12 volts
and it won't mind the change from positive
ground to negative ground. It will still spin the
correct direction. I have 6 volt starters on my
older Fords that have run on 12 volts for years
and they work better than a newer Ford that
was built as 12 volt.
