I dont know about the JD lawn mower engines but some of the other small engines dont have bearings they just run on the rod which is alumunum. You might want to file the cap to make the rod a little tighter on the crank. The crank is probaboy a little out of round and filing the cap is only a temp. fix. Or you can go buy a new engine, which is easier but not as much fun.Have fun
